Choose one priority for wash day
Definition, volume, speed and convenience do not always sit in the same order on your wish list. Before changing your routine, decide which matters most this week. A style for an early start can have a different goal from an afternoon spent experimenting. You are allowed to enjoy both versions equally.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends conditioning the full length of curls and detangling in sections. Between washes, wet hair and use leave-in conditioner before detangling. Its guidance discourages dry brushing to help avoid breakage and frizz during the process.
Keep experiments small and readable
Choose just one variable: the amount of product within its directions, an application order allowed by the label or the way you organise your sections. Repeat your other usual steps. You do not need a spreadsheet; simply remember what you did differently and whether you enjoyed wearing the finished result.
Photograph the finished style from a similar angle rather than searching for unusually flattering light. Add a quick note about how long it took. This gives you your own results to compare, instead of pursuing the exact shape of a curl you have seen on somebody else or in an advertising campaign.
Keep an easy version available
For bedtime, the AAD suggests loose hairstyles and mentions satin or silk bonnets and pillowcases to reduce friction. Choose something comfortable. A useful suggestion should coexist with how you actually prefer to sleep, rather than introducing another ritual that does not suit you.
Keep a minimal version of your routine ready for busy days and save experiments for when you feel interested in trying them. If a step needs more attention than you want to give it, you can leave it out. Your texture does not need to look identical every morning to feel considered and personal.
