Get ready before you start
When you shave just before leaving home, a missing item can turn the routine into a scramble. Put your mirror, chosen product and a towel within reach. You do not need an entirely new kit: start by checking your space and the instructions for your razor.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends wetting your skin and hair before shaving and using shaving cream or gel. Preparation belongs in the routine; it is not something to rush through so you can spend longer going over the same patch.
Work with the direction of growth
The AAD also recommends shaving in the direction the hair grows and rinsing the blade after each stroke. Take a look at your face first. Repeating a familiar movement is not quite the same as checking the direction of growth.
You can keep your goal simple that day. An upcoming meeting does not require a different razor or an unfamiliar finish. Leaving a little time makes it easier to decide what you want at the mirror rather than while watching the clock.
Include the put-away step
The AAD advises keeping a razor somewhere dry, rather than in the shower or on a wet sink. Choose a specific place for it and follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
If discomfort keeps returning, or you have questions about your skin, ask a dermatologist rather than trying one product after another. This guide helps organise an everyday routine; it does not diagnose irritation or offer a treatment.
